WHAT IS THE TEXTILES AND APPAREL INDUSTRY?

The apparel and textile industry can be broken down into two major segments: the production of textiles and fabric from raw materials and the transformation of these fabrics into clothing and other accessories. This industry also includes lesser seen knitting mills.

Apparel

Clothing industry or garment industry summarizes the types of trade and industry along the production and value chain of clothing and garments, starting with the textile industry, embellishment using embroidery, via the fashion industry to apparel retailers up to trade with second-hand clothes and textile recycling.

The fashion industry consists of four levels: the production of raw materials, principally fibres and textiles but also leather and fur; the production of fashion goods by designers, manufacturers, contractors, and others; retail sales; and various forms of advertising and promotion.

Textiles

The textile industry is primarily concerned with the design, production and distribution of yarn, cloth and clothing. The raw material may be natural, or synthetic using products of the chemical industry.

The textile industry is the industry responsible for converting raw material into a finished product, and it includes textile developing, producing, manufacturing, and distributing. There are two major categories of fabric in the industry: natural are those that occur naturally and come from plants and animals.

International Trade

Downstream refers to the filtering of the raw materials obtained during the upstream phase.

 

This means refining crude oil and purifying natural gas.

 

The marketing and commercial distribution of these products to consumers and end users in a number of forms including natural gas, diesel oil, petrol, gasoline, lubricants, kerosene, jet fuel, asphalt, heating oil, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) as well as a number of other types of petrochemicals.
